'The Frog'

A quickie page for my Baja (pronounced 'ba-ha').

 

My Baja before I owned it (if that makes sense!).

The Frog comes home.

My wicked paint job on the exhaust which burnt off in a couple of minutes (due to being supplied the wrong paint). The exhaust is in a bit of a sorry state at the moment, but I'll strip and re-paint it when I have a dry day free.

The Frog and Beryl (Sam's '71 1200). Beryl is off the road at the moment (mostly de-chromed and with his spare wheels on), but will soon be seen heading down to beaches in Cornwall again. :)

In the absence of any new pics for a while here's a nice one of Sam's Beetle that I just scanned for the desktop on his computer. It's Beryl in Cornwall last year with her summer plumage on.

The exhaust freshly painted with VHT paint. Only took 6 cans!!!

I was over checking Duncan's progress on his Square Back when I noticed this awesome reflection in his hub cap. Luckily Duncan had a digital camera to hand. :)

I picked up a pair of cheap Spax coil-over shocks to give them a go, and I'm pretty pleased with them. Stripped, serviced and re-painted them. The rebound is a little lacking so I might need to do some more work on them to sort that out. I'm more impressed with them than I thought I would be. The ride seems smoother, and they've given the rear a nice bit of extra height.

I've got my tree (or nerf) bars on at last. It only took 5 months! They look great though -- much better than running boards.

I had to put these pics up. I don't have many pics of the Frog in action, which I need to rectify. :)

The Frog is a 1971 1300 VW Beetle modded to a Baja Bug.

Last mod:

New wheels and exhaust, and a 1600 engine.

Plans for the Frog include (in no order):

  1. Front beam supports.
  2. A gas lift forward hinging bonnet (hood) rather than lift off.
  3. A bigger engine -- now a 1776cc. *grin* Still collecting bits...
  4. Dual Webers. *grin* (I have Weber twin 36s waiting for the engine to be built).
