Sam White sculptural artist, biography

Sam White is a versatile artist based in the South West of England. His sculpture is inspired by the moorland, coastline and wildlife of the area. Sam's creative process is a personal journey with the natural environment as his audience.

He is highly trained in ceramics, but also likes to use metal, including scrap, in his work. Sam's work is varied and is constantly evolving. He is also very open to commisions, and helping other people to realise their ideas.

Sam studied at the Plymouth college of Art and Design from 2000 to 2004, attaining a BA(hons) in Applied Arts + Ceramics, Glass and Metals.

From 2005 to 2006 Sam was the Artist in Residence at Kelly College, Tavistock. He used the time to develop his work for his first solo exhibition, and also to inspire the students in their own work.

He took part in the 2007 AA2A scheme, and took advantage of PCAD's ceramics studio and kilns. With the use of their slab roller and big kilns he was able to create large scale ceramic pieces, further developing a process he was working on during his degree.

Sam shows his work at various exhibitions in the South West, and many of the pieces are available to buy. To see photos from past exhibitions visit the 'EXHIBITIONS' section, and to see what is currently for sale visit the 'FOR SALE' section.
